I've Got Six Words

Here's me in a nutshell.

Have you heard that story about Hemmingway? Someone challenged him to write a story only using six words. His reply was, "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn."
Rumor has it many called it his best work.
Recently on Etsy I read a helpful tutorial. The author challenged Etsy Sellers to do the same for their self/business. I was really turned on by this challenge. Thinking about it and working up to it has been tough. It's been almost two weeks since I took the challenge and I'm having difficulties figuring out what I want to say with six words.
What I am about to share with you is the list of ideas I have composed. I'm a bit embarassed about it. But I feel the need to share as a rite of passage. (so to speak) I read the list yesterday to my husband and some of them flat out made me laugh while reading them. He laughed at some too, and tried to make me nix a few immediately. Here is the list though, unedited. I don't mind if you laugh too. (or roll your eyes at me)

Monday Meetups

On Etsy I am a member of the Homefront Artistry Team. To find out more about them visit http://www.homefrontartistryteam.blogspot.com/

Every second and last Monday of the month we have an internet social. This weeks interviewer is Mandy of http://www.simplyleilani.etsy.com/

 Here's how our conversation goes:

Mandy, "Are you a night owl or an early bird?"

Sarah, "I am definitely an early bird. My husband is in flight school now. He leaves the house at 4:00 am. So I leave my comfy, cozy bed at 3:45 am. Someone has to toast his bagel and pack his lunch. But I love it because it's a killer excuse to have extra coffee."

Mandy,"Share one thing on your bucket list."

Sarah, "I guess I'd say that one of the more important things is to finish a series of paintings I started in 2002. I have been painting portraits of chair lifts from ski resorts I've been to. I have two and a half done. I want to have eight to ten. I've really got to get going on it."

Mandy, "What's your favorite thing about yourself."

Sarah, "My ability to change."

Thanks Mandy. That chat was short and sweet.

The Year of the Rabbit

The Chinese New Year is coming. It begins on February 3rd to be exact. I love the opportunity to celebrate any holiday. I particularly enjoy ones with awesome decorations and killer food. This holiday definitely falls into that category.

I made some scarves to celebrate. You can find them here:

One of my peers included me in a treasury. I alway appreciate that.

I decided I wanted some homemade decorations. I mailed a few children I know drawings of dragons. I asked them to color them in and mail them back to me. When I receive them I will string them up to make garland.
(Not only is this going to result in a great decoration, but it is also a fun way to keep in touch with my family and friends that are far away.)

Last but not least, I have tried some new recipes:
Broiled Orange Ginger Shrimp - O.k. but not out of this world
Lion’s Head Meatballs in Spicy coconut Sauce – Killer! I will definitely be repeating this one during my celebration

Still on my recipe to-do list:
Longevity noodles – Apparently you serve the longest noodles you can find. The oldest person is supposed to be served first. (funny, both key points in this meal seem a bit unsocial by my standards)
Vegetarian’s Delight
New Year’s Rice Cakes – I’m going to have to go rice flour hunting for this one.

I refuse to make my own fortune cookies. (That’s untraditional)

If I have inspired you to celebrate the Chinese New Year also you can check out this website. They have great resources.
